Was bedeuten die Menschenrechte für Sie persönlich?
Bökemeier: Die Menschenrechte sind für mich grundlegend und in der ganzen Welt gültig. Es war ein großer Fortschritt, als sie 1948 von den Vereinten Nationen beschlossen wurden. Leider werden sie an vielen Orten ständig gebrochen!
Für mich als Christ sind die Menschenechte darin begründet, dass Gott alle Menschen zu seinem „Ebenbild“ geschaffen hat. Das gilt, egal welcher Nationalität, Religion, Hautfarbe,… sie sind – und egal, welche Begabungen und Behinderungen ein Mensch hat!
Welche Rolle spielen die Menschenrechte in Ihrem Amt als Flüchtlingsbeauftragter?
Bökemeier: Flüchtlingsarbeit ist Menschenrechtsarbeit! In Artikel 3 der Allgemeinen Erklärung der Menschenrechte heißt es: „Jeder Mensch hat das Recht auf Leben, Freiheit und Sicherheit der Person.“ Aber diese grundlegenden Rechte werden Flüchtlingen in Deutschland manchmal vorenthalten, z.B. wenn sie in ein unsicheres Land abgeschoben werden sollen, wenn sie bei uns weniger Geld zum Leben bekommen als alle anderen, oder wenn sie in einer Massenunterkunft wohnen müssen. Zusammen mit anderen Menschen setze ich mich für ihre Rechte hier bei uns in Lippe ein.
Was können andere Leute tun, um zu helfen?
Bökemeier: Wichtig ist einmal eine gute Beratung der Flüchtlinge. Denn wenn sie z.B. dadurch endlich ein Aufenthaltsrecht bekommen, dann erledigen sich manch andere Probleme fast von selbst. Helfen kann jeder dadurch, dass er Geld spendet für solche Beratungsstellen – wie z.B. die Flüchtlingshilfe Lippe e.V., in der ich auch aktiv bin. Aber es hilft auch schon, mal ein Flüchtlingswohnheim zu besuchen und Kontakt aufzunehmen. Vielleicht ergibt es sich, in einer örtlichen Initiative wie jetzt neu in Leopoldshöhe dem „Runden Tisch“ mitzuarbeiten. Aber vor allem sollte man, wenn man Flüchtlinge in der Schule oder irgendwo sonst trifft, in ihnen Mitmenschen und nicht „Asylanten“ sehen!
