Vielfach angeboten, gerade für Jugendliche, werden Ausflüge nach London. Gern auch um die Weihnachtszeit, dann häufig mit schlechtem Wetter. Wer es gern etwas individueller mag und auch nicht so viel ausgeben möchte, der kann seine Reise auch selbst und dafür umso individueller planen.
Zuerst steht man vor der Qual der Wahl, welches Verkehrsmittel man nutzen soll: Bahn oder Flugzeug? Im Hinblick auf die Länge der Reise, habe ich Interesse an einer kurzen Reisedauer und da ein Bahnticket sowieso mindestens 100 Euro kostet, entscheide ich mich für den Flieger. Ryanair sieht auf den ersten Blick verlockend aus: Flug von Düsseldorf-Weeze nach London-Stansted für 14 Euro und noch einmal genauso viel für den Rückflug. Leider ist der Flug entweder früh morgens (6.45 Uhr) oder spät abends (22:40 Uhr), was sicherlich bei einem langen Wochenende praktisch sein dürfte, doch sonst eher eine Menge Nerven kostet. Außerdem ist zu bedenken, dass die Fahrt nach Weeze noch einmal knapp jeweils knapp 30 Euro kostet, da man den Flughafen nicht mit der Bahn erreichen kann und so erst mit der Bahn fährt und dann auf einen kostenpflichtigen Busshuttle ausweichen muss. In London ist dafür der Transfer vom Flughafen zwar etwas kompliziert, dafür aber sehr günstig, schon ab 2 Pfund bekommt man die Fahrt in die Innenstadt mit dem easy Busshuttle, der tatsächlich auch mit der gleichnamigen Fluggesellschaft verwoben ist. Es erscheint jedoch nicht besonders easy, wenn man sein Ticket schon im Voraus per Internet buchen muss, um auch wirklich eine Chance auf einen solch günstigen Preis zu haben. Endgültig durch die rigiden Gepäckvorschriften abgeschreckt, buchte ich einen Lufthansaflug vom „richtigen“ Düsseldorfer Flughafen nach London Heathrow für knapp 120 Euro mit Transitkosten von unter 30 Euro in Deutschland.
Wie wird es wohl in London?
Da ich über eine Bahncard verfüge, habe ich sowohl in Detmold als auch in Düsseldorf die City-Option und kann so bequem mit dem Bus zum Bahnhof fahren. Von dort fuhr ich mit der Nordwestbahn nach Bielefeld, von wo aus man direkt mit dem ICE zum Düsseldorfer Flughafen fahren kann. Leider war der ICE in Bielefeld erst einmal um über 20 Minuten verspätet, doch ich hatte genug Zeit eingeplant und dank frühzeitiger Buchung kosteten Hin- und Rückfahrt zusammen nur 28,50 Euro.
Nach der Fahrt mit dem Skytrain zum Terminal, wies man mich darauf hin, dass man ab jetzt als Economy-Kunde an einem Automaten einchecken müsse und dann am Schalter das Gepäck abgeben könne. Die junge Frau, die an den Automaten stand, kam sofort herbei, als ich mich mit meinem Reisepass etwas schwer tat und sie versuchte daraufhin eine Weile, diesen in die Maschine zu befördern, bis diese endlich zufrieden war.
Der Flug verlief recht ruhig und ich wurde mit Kartoffelsalat mit Lachsstreifen verköstigt. London konnte kommen!
