Marc Elsberg, 1967 in Wien geboren, zieht seine Leser mit „Blackout“ unausweichlich in seinen Bann, aus dem es kein Entrinnen mehr gibt. Ein raffinierter, packender Thriller, der uns zeigt, wie gefährlich unsere Abhängigkeit von der Elektrizität wirklich ist.
Geschichte eines verheerenden Stromausfalles und die Machtlosigkeit der Menschen
Viele haben es selbst schon erlebt, es gewittert und die Sicherung springt raus. Keine große Sache, man geht zum Sicherungskasten und schaltet sie wieder ein. Der Strom ist wieder da. Ende der Geschichte. Nicht so in „Blackout“. Marc Elsberg verstrickt uns in eine Geschichte eines verheerenden Stromausfalles, der die Machtlosigkeit der Menschen offenbart. Er führt uns schonungslos vor Augen, wie abhängig wir von der Elektrizität sind und wie wenig Einfluss wir tatsächlich haben, wenn mal etwas schief läuft. Verschiedene Lösungsansätze, die wenig gewinnbringend sind und stets die Frage im Hinterkopf: Wer ist für dieses Chaos verantwortlich? Ein Zufall?
Der Leser verfolgt verschiedene Handlungsstränge, die in verschiedenen Orten Europas starten und mehr und mehr miteinander verschmelzen. Dabei gerät er in einen Strudel von Ratlosigkeit, Spannung und unaufhaltsamer Gefahr. Beim Lesen beschleicht einen das Gefühl von Beklemmung und man wünscht sich zu üben, wie man Feuer ohne Elektrizität erzeugen kann.
Geniales Werk, gradliniger Schreibstil und grandiose Handlung
Elsberg verknüpft technisch umfangreiches Wissen mit dem Verhalten der Menschen in Ausnahmesituationen und scheut sich nicht davor, uns die hässliche Seite der Menschheit vor Augen zu führen. Diese Mischung macht es unmöglich, das Buch aus der Hand zu legen. Der Leser ist bis zum (bitteren?) Ende gefangen in einem selbstzerstörerischen Strudel aus Ungewissheit, Angst und Verzweiflung. Geniales Werk, gradliniger Schreibstil und grandiose Handlung. Unbedingt lesen!
Viel recherchiert
Für seinen Thriller hat Elsberg viel recherchiert. Er sprach mit „Fachleuten aus verschiedenen Bereichen, etwa aus der Energie- und IT-Branche oder aus dem Katastrophenschutz.“ Außerdem zog er Nachrichten- und Fachmagazine hinzu und bezieht spezielle Studien ein. Parallel zu seinen Recherchen entstand eine großangelegte Studie im Auftrag des Deutschen Bundestages über die Folgen eines länger anhaltenden, großflächigen Stromausfalls in einem Teil Deutschlands. Die Studie kam im Wesentlichen zu denselben Ergebnissen. Einige Details und Erkenntnisse flossen in seinen Thriller ein. Das Buch ist als gebundene Ausgabe, als Taschenbuch (Blanvalet Verlag) und als E-Book erhältlich.
